Sony To Release New PlayStation In 2012

Its been nearly six years since the PlayStation 3 was debuted, and now Sony plans to unveil its predecessor sometime in 2012. Plagued by a series of heavily publicized hacks, Sony will need to show that it is capable of keeping up with the latest technologies in order to appease gamers. DigiTimes, the company responsible for producing most of the electronic components necessary for Sony consoles, has announced that the new model PlayStation will be manufactured at the end of 2011. Although Sony is waiting to formally announce its creation, it is likely that the new console will be named the PlayStaion 4.

What consumers can expect to see is built-in infrared technology that is somewhat similar to what you see in the Microsoft Kinect. Just a few months ago, a video game news outlet reported that Sony executives weren’t planning on releasing a new version of the PlayStation until 2014. However, the security breaches with the PlayStation Network might have prompted the company to reconsider its position. Nintendo will also be releasing an updated version of the Wii in 2012, which will be steep competition for Sony. So far, Sony is the only company that does not have an interactive accessory or peripheral for video game players.

Die hard PlayStation fans may be waiting for Sony to release a new version, but if the company is to remain viable it must address both security concerns as well as changes in gaming technology. Consumers will have to wait to see what Sony has in store until the rumored PlayStation 4 is unveiled.

Nokia N9 Runs On The MeeGo OS

While Nokia has discontinued the use of the Symbian OS, it seems that it is using the MeeGo OS in its place until Microsoft perfects the Windows Phone 7 OS ‘Mango’ updates. The Nokia N9 is the only smart phone sold commercially that is running on technology powered by Linux. This mobile phone comes with an impressive 8MP camera and a dual LED flash. Although the Nokia N9 won’t be available for purchase for another few months, technology experts are already question exactly who the phone was designed for.

With a 3.9 touchscreen display, Nokia opted to leave off the QWERTY keyboard or any other type of buttons. The Nokia N9 look sleek, sturdy and fast, but there aren’t enough features on it to make it appealing to everyday consumers. On the other hand, tech fans already have enough devices on their plates for now. Nokia sold exceptionally well amongst technology buffs when it ran its smart phones on the Symbian OS. Linux is a reliable and easy to handle OS, however, it is not known how it will translate its power onto a smart phone.

It seems that Nokia is aware of the issues that users will have with the N9, but there are also other smart phones in development. As of now, Nokia has not given the public any pricing information on its newest product. Based on the feedback that Nokia gets, the N9 will likely be streamlined and tweaked until the company is able to get all of the kinks worked out.

The Samsung Galaxy S Features The Latest In Touchscreen Technology

Whether you’re a fan of mobile phones that slide open and closed or touchscreens, you can’t deny that most manufacturers favor full glass front smartphones. When touchscreens were first introduced, users had a habit of cracking them by placing them in their back pockets or accidentally dropping them. Although mobile phone makers encourage users to purchase carrying cases, they soon released that the flaw was in the design.

In addition, most touchscreen mobile phones are extremely sensitive to touch. So sensitive, in fact, that they can be engaged without the user even touching them. The Galaxy S comes with features that prevent users from accidentally making calls, connecting to the web and incurring astronomical charges. Touchscreen technology has evolved over the years, and the Samsung Galaxy S allows users to access virtually every part of the menu quickly.

Made from a scratch resistant case, the Galaxy S Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is simply the most advanced display that you will find now. You can go to the site that sells the Samsung Galaxy S in order to find the latest news and updates on this mobile phone. The Android OS is fully integrated with thousands of apps and programs designed to make the user experience even better.

There are many other mobile phones that have touchscreens, but none can compare to the Samsung Galaxy S. Using your finger you can tap the screen like a mouse or navigate your music, video and photo folders in the slider menu. When a call comes in, you can touch the screen once and you will be connected. Traditional keys can stick, and the full QWERTY keyboard is available on the Samsung Galaxy S touchscreen as well. Visit a local mobile phone retailer so that you can test out the Galaxy S for yourself.

Samsung Unveils New Laptop Hard Drive With 1TB Storage Capacity

Move over gigabytes, its all about the terabyte. While manufacturers such as Apple move into cloud computing territory, Samsung believes that consumers prefer to storage their data where they feel it is safest – on their hard drives. The SpinPoint M8 is a powerful hard drive that can easily fit into even the smallest laptops. Each of its two platters stores 500MG of data, which means that techies can easily expand the storage capacity on their laptops without needing to take them completely apart. It also has 8MB buffer memory, which means that it is less draining on computer resources.

This is a great hard drive for laptop owners that start to experience slow operations, or simply run out of room to store their files. The hard drive, which is priced at around $130, is still in production but Samsung expects to have it in stores by the end of the year. Unlike standard desktop computers, laptops are much more complicated to take apart. Owners will either need to solder the case back together once they are done installing the new SpinPoint M8 hard drive, or they will need to take their laptops to computer repair shops.

There is a high demand for laptops with large storage capacity. Presently, most laptops come with approximately 750MB hard drives, which means that expansion with the SpinPoint M8 would give them 1.75 terabytes of storage room in total. The growing prevalence of large digital files such as movies and music is causing users to need more storage space on their computers.

Seattle – The New Silicon Valley?

Silicon Valley was nothing more than an expansive, barren wasteland when innovative thinkers and technology experts began to move in. For decades, some of the most well known tech manufacturers have been establishing their home bases and research there. Xerox, Adobe, SanDisk – these are just some of the companies that have been founded, grown and flourished in Silicon Valley. Now, it appears that this space is becoming overcrowded. Rainy Seattle may not seem like the most obvious of alternative locales, but this city is strategically positioned between the Pacific and Canada.

High tech software and technology companies such as Microsoft and Google has established satellite posts in Seattle. There’s not a whole lot of land for development available, but there are some notable perks. Unlike New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago, the cost of living in Seattle is low. This is a big draw for IT professionals and software engineers that are fresh out of school or looking to move their entire families. The recession has not gone unnoticed in the tech industry, so for companies that invest millions of dollars in product development, trimming operational costs is imperative for survival.

The mass migration to Seattle may be a short lived trend for technology based companies, but this does mark one of the biggest hiring boons that have been seen in years. Tech is one of the few sectors that are engaging in massive hiring sprees instead of laying off workers by the thousand. Out of work techies can safely move to Seattle and know that a job with a major company awaits.

US Senate And DOJ Reviewing Legality Of Proposed AT&T Merger

According to AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, AT&T would be able to serve more than 95% of all customers in the US if the proposed merger were to go through. Still, members of the US Senate and the Department of Justice are worried that the merger would put other cell phone carriers out of business. AT&T staunchly defended their position during a Senate Judiciary hearing by providing documents and recent reports in the hopes of convincing the opposition. Concerned Senate representatives noted that Verizon Wireless and AT&T would be given control of nearly 80% of the cell phone carrier market if the merger were to be approved.

In response, AT&T noted that consumers would have access to more dependable cell phone services with added bonuses such as fewer dropped calls and more reliable high speed wireless Internet access. Some critics have argued that the merger will cost US citizens there jobs. More than 40,000 AT&T employees are represented by the Communications Workers of America, and a spokeswoman for the company believes that the merger could lead to increased pay.

As billions of dollars hang in the balance, AT&T will have to work hard to win over members of the Senate. The main concern is that the merger would give cell phone customers only two choices. AT&T has already acquired Cingular, and with their sights set on T-Mobile, smaller cell phone carriers may be doomed. AT&T will have many more opportunities to respond to the scrutiny both in the Senate as well as in the public.

Analysts Report Possible Apple Product Shortage

The production of certain electronic components has ceased ever since Japan was hit with a series of tsunamis and earthquakes. As disaster recovery efforts are taking much longer to be implemented than they were first expected to take, popular Apple products may soon become scarce. Several major news outlets are reporting that the iPad 2 as well as the iPhone 4 may disappear from the shelves of electronics retailers. To make matters worse, there is a lack of available workers at the Chengdu, China factory where Apple products are made.

On a monthly basis, more than five million Apple products roll out of production, but now, the bestselling devices only available on a limited basis. Part of the appeal of Apple is the company’s ability to satisfy orders quickly. Already, Apple is looking to pickup production of the iPad 2 in an alternate factory in China. The plan may be effective now, but if Apple starts to use secondary or substandard parts in their popular products, there may be a future backlash. The company dealt with complaints about cracked iPad screens earlier this year, and a class action lawsuit was even filed in California.

In order for Apple to continue to be the dominant force in the electronics retail industry, the company will need to be certain that newly manufactured products are up to their strict standards. As of now, consumers have not noticed a lack of availability of Apple products, but this could soon change as the busy summer shopping months approach.
